How the 100 points divide.
The foundation of any remote workday. We measure real performance at the primary workspace, not at the router.
Bandwidth
Measured at the primary workspace during peak hours. Download, upload, and latency tested against the published floor.
Stability
Packet loss, dropout frequency, consistency across rooms, and router placement. The connection has to hold up over a workday, not just a speed test.
Redundancy
Secondary network availability — backup ISP or mobile hotspot — and UPS support on modem/router. Recommended, scored upward when present.
Coverage
Reliable signal in the primary workspace, any secondary workspace, and bedrooms. Dead zones reduce score.
Not just somewhere to sit. We assess the desk, the seating, the power setup, the light, and how the space accommodates real work over a long stay.
Dedicated area
Desk or table suitable for laptop use, stable seating, adequate surface area, nearby power outlets. Room for a second screen lifts the score.
Ergonomics
Ergonomic chair, external monitor, keyboard support, proper desk height — all score upward. Their absence doesn't penalise, since these aren't expected in short stays.
Lighting
Adequate task lighting, natural light preferred, no excessive glare.
Power infrastructure
Accessible outlets at the desk. Surge protection recommended. Extension cables where outlets are distant.
Capacity
How many people can work simultaneously — viable workstations, bandwidth sufficiency, physical space, and privacy separation.
Focus is fragile. We require a measured decibel reading at the workspace during daytime hours, and assess the physical separation and privacy available for confidential calls.
External noise
Assessed during working hours. Traffic, construction, nightlife, aircraft, environmental noise.
Internal noise
Appliance noise, HVAC systems, plumbing, building transmission.
Acoustic isolation
Separate rooms, solid doors, and sound-dampening features score upward.
Call privacy
Property must support confidential conversations — closable doors, visual privacy, low risk of interruption.
Because how you show up on screen matters. Background and lighting assessed from a submitted workspace video and photos.
Background
Neutral or professional backdrop, clean visual environment, no distracting elements. Plants and natural elements encouraged.
Lighting for video
Face visibility, balanced illumination, no harsh backlighting, ability to adjust lighting tone.
Nothing breaks a workday faster than the power going off. We assess everyday reliability, the presence of backup systems, and year-round climate control.
Power reliability
Frequency of outages, local infrastructure stability, and backup options.
Climate control
Adequate temperature control, ventilation, and comfort for extended work sessions.
A standard for serious remote work includes physical and digital safety. We assess the security of the property and its network.
Physical security
Secure entry plus lockable storage scores highest. Secure entry alone, basic security, and unsecured tiers descend from there.
Network security
Private, password-protected Wi-Fi scores highest. Shared household Wi-Fi descends. Open networks fail.
Where each score lands.
Below seventy, the property isn't certified. From seventy upwards, the score determines the tier shown alongside every listing. See how Curated differs from Certified →
What hosts submit.
Certification is based on documented evidence. Every claim is backed by a digital file.
Video walkthrough
A continuous or clearly segmented recording of the workspace, internet equipment, lighting, noise context, and general property condition.
Photographic documentation
Desk and seating, video-call background, power outlets, router, and any exterior views where environmental noise originates.
Connectivity test
Speedtest results from the primary workspace during working hours — download, upload, latency. Multiple readings recommended for consistency.
SPEED.CLOUDFLARE.COMDecibel test
A real-time sound meter reading from the workstation during the day — typical conditions and building transmission, not best-case.
REALTIMESOUNDMETER.ORGCertified for twelve months.
Material changes — to internet, workspace, or environment — must be reported. Certification can be suspended or revoked if conditions slip.
